not static

Music is our witness and comforter through dark times, it cheers us on when we are happy. It is a teacher and wiser friend. It can be cynical when we need to hate. It can punish us when we need to hurt. It can make you fall in love. It can remind you why you fell in love. It flows through time in many forms and snakes its way around us like white Chinese water dragons, whispering ‘On, on!’

Elf female with own Oracle seeks Underwater Temple to guard.

If you do have an underwater temple that needs guarding, I’m the Elfess for the job.
Please make sure there are no spiders in the Underwater temple, but do not kill them if you find them, instead ask them nicely to “go away for a bit”

Snowing Ghost Children

The dry snow made hard crunchy scratchy sounds at the windows all night long. At first I thought it was little fingers tapping, then scratching at the glass. It flies up and down and across the air, and then gets whipped suddenly the other way. When you open the window it doesn’t seem cold and then suddenly it stings you in the face, tiny biting barbs of frost. Everything outside is white, pink and bluey-grey. It’s not as bright as Canada, it’s more dove coloured. It wants to come in. I left the window open for some air and came back into the room to find baby snow shapes that quickly sighed into crying puddles.

A man outside pushes the snow off the sidewalk outside the front of the property. He works efficiently, with purpose. His snow shovel makes a comforting scrape, scrape, scrape noise on the ground.

As fast as he has cleared it, a new layer of powder blue snow settles.

The Only Living Boy in New York

Here I am

Watch a nice video someone made for it here Actually I like this video because these are the things we see in NYC all the time. I have sat on those orange and yellow seats on the train.

Before Simon and Garfunkel were famous, they were known as Tom and Jerry.
Near the end of their breakup, just before the seminal album Bridge over Troubled Water, they were both invited to appear in Catch 22. Paul Simon’s role was dropped, leaving him alone in New York whilst Garfunkel flew to Mexico to film. It is a song of sadness at being left behind, but also of love.

Half of the time were gone but we dont know where, and we don't know here.

There are places I’ll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Sad News

My Grandfather, Gordon Phillips, passed away yesterday morning. He took me to Disney World, bought me the Star Trek Technical Manual, loaned me the money for my first and only real set of drums and gave me his cufflinks for my wedding.

He was a good guy and I will miss him.

Random googlings

My customised Google desktop brings me a warm morning daily puppy. Today it was a gorgeous chocolate lab called Coco. You can get yours at the Daily Puppy.

She led me to start thinking about feral children (obviously)

On the feral children website was an interesting link to an essay called Natures and Cultures of Cuteness (which would be interesting to anyone interested in Japanese Anime/Animation generally and Psychology)

Losing things

Whenever there is disharmony in the Cavill household we lose things. Important things, like credit cards, keys, jewellery or on the way back from the UK to the USA, my passport which disappeared at the moment of our first snap, and then remained invisible for 8 hours on the flight, during which we grrrd and bit each other. Only at the end was the passport found, in a highly visible place, and only after we gently padded round each other and made up.
