It was an amazing slice of Old Hoboken! I used to go there with my ex father in law, Gene Saulino, who was the club's secretary in the late 50s and early 60s. A classic men's club, testosterone overload joint. Great place for the guys to getaway once a week, relax, and socialize. Maybe one reason marraiges were stronger years ago!

When I started to occassionally join my father in law on his Thursday night Character club jaunts (in the mid 1990s) I finally felt like "one of the boys!!" I loved to talk politics, and hear stories about old Hoboken. There was always a card game going on in the background, and lots of laughter. Gene was also a truly good soul, a kind and decent and man...as anyone who remembers him would tell you. (he passed away 2 years ago)

So long live the memory of the Hoboken Character Club, and Gene Saulino!
