No Oscar for Young Children

I told you Trailer Park Boys’ Ellen Page wouldn’t get an Oscar™and I was right. Not that I really cared, it was more that Juno the movie and its neocon agenda pissed me off. To tell you the truth, I don’t care about the Oscars™ or, as they are sometimes called The Academy Awards™, either.

I do like the Coen Brothers. I especially like Cormac McCarthy.

If you would like to read a violent a re imagining of the old west you could do no better than Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West.

Apparently Ridley Scott is going to make this a movie.

I’d say Ridley should keep an eye out for the Judge. He’s not the kind of judge that judges the Academy Awards™.

Star Wars Pictures

Ok, so I illustrated these all around July last year, in a sort of Star Wars ‘fit’. I kept meaning to put them up but never got round to it. I’ve used them in a Mythology talk on Star Wars that I did in NY a few months back. It’s time I posted them, as I would like to build up the energy and enthusiasm to do another bunch before our baby arrives. It’s part of an ongoing project, or should I say, love of mine. I might switch course for a bit and do some Indiana Jones or some Lord of the Rings… Not sure at this point. I’m waiting to be struck by inspiration.

They are all done as a combination of pencil/ink/acrylic and then some are finished off in digital.

Young Leia

The idea here is that as ‘not quite’ teenagers, Leia and Luke are both contemplating their destinies long before we meet them in ‘A New Hope’

Young Luke

I love how self contained young Anakin is.

Young Anakin

Tuskan Raiders are just plain mean. Atavistic nightmare stuff.

Tuskan

Prep drawing for Anakin. I’ve got plans for something more grand and psychedelic. You know, involving his hair.

Anakin

Shmi Skywalker is a total selfless mother. I liked the trailers where it had just her saying to Anakin “Don’t look back” Why is she French? I don’t know.

Shmi

Shmi Silhouette

Another prep for young Obi. I have ideas for him too, and at some point, Alec Guinness.

Obi Wan

Twileks. Kinky.

Aayla Secura

I love this guy. He has a sort of sadness that counteracts his horrific appearance.

Tion Medon

The Death Star caused me moments of panic. Don’t ask why.

Death Star

Doing this one made me feel like puking.

Immolation

What’s not to love about old Palpy? Plus I had to learn how to make force lightening and shape it to my will.

Palpatine

I wouldn’t take for granted that Vader is as he appears. It’s easy to make errors when interpreting symbols.

Lord Vader

Amidala pregnant was the last one I did. She is so pretty. I created about 5 or 6 different versions of her, the last one in September. A week later I found out I was pregnant.

Goblin King Figurine

There are a couple of things that most people remember from Labyrinth. It’s nice to see that the makers of the David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King Figurine have paid such attention to detail.

Happy President’s Day

As a Canadian I don’t really have a handle on President’s Day. I assume there have been some nice ones as well as the other kind. I don’t usually steal pics for the blog but this made me laugh in the NY times today.

Indonesian city waits for real king to reveal himself

It’s an intriguing story. Actually it’s more like a fairytale.

“Either Hangabehi is king, he said, or Tejowulan is king, or both are king, or neither one is king.”

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What can I say? If this doesn’t get you excited, you are dead to me.
Too old???????????????
SOD OFF!
