Cowboy Movie Roundup!
Well it would seem that the last few years have seen a resurgence in the cowboy movie genre. We spent Saturday watching 3 of the top rated cowboy type films.
Film 1: 3.10 to Yuma
A nice, almost spaghetti style. western that owes a lot to Once upon a Time in the West. The central relationship between Christian Bale and Russell Crowe was a bit forced but nonetheless it was watchable. Personally, I liked that fact that even though they seemed to fall in love they didn’t do anything about it.
Russell from Six Feet Under was great as the murderous lieutenant Charlie Prince. He gets “Best in Show”.
Film 2: No Country for Old Men
A guy with a crazy haircut embodies a sort of millennial evil all over the south west. There’s missing money, a Marlboro Man and Sherriff Tommy Lee Jones. Based upon the Cormac McCarthy book of the same name it plots the familiar, bleak landscape of many of his other works of border fiction. You know, guys what don’t talk much, doing murder and such, doomed from the start.
It ends with a heartbreaking rumination on mortality.
Film 3: Brokeback Mountain
It’s a cowboys in love movie. As above, it ends with a heartbreaking rumination on mortality

Have you seen The Proposition? I think 3:10 To Yuma owes a lot to it.

Have not seen! Was supposed to see but did not. Add to Netflix queue at once.

As you may know it was written by Nick Cave. Has taken the place of The Unforgiven for me. Highly recommended. Enjoy!
