Roi from Mechanical Cabaret wrote the music. I sang the song in my bestest pretentious Gothic girl voice. We recorded it about 5 years ago, maybe longer. The video is temporary until I can get hold of a highwayman costume, a glossy horse and a large smoke machine.

Bloody Hell! I haven’t heard this for a while! We had fun doing this. Tiger sings BRILLIANTLY on it… she’s totally taking the piss of certain kinds of female ‘pseudo-ethereal’ vocalists, but, seriously, just listen to the range of expression in her voice. And only ONE track of vocals too, no layering at all!! Fantastic I say, and ‘More!! More!!!’ to boot. Bring on Arachnia 9!
I like the Alan Partridge style Highwayman vocal samples we made… ‘Stand And Deliver’ etc, and the Gypsy violin (played without quantise I might add!) and the ‘cantering’ beat… especially above these things though, I love the fact that we used gunshot sounds as part of the rhythm throughout the whole thing(including a machine-gun right at the end!) but the protagonist eventually gets killed by a BLADE! See? Nice bit of irony there. Or Steely, or Silvery, I’m not sure which…
Thanks for that lovely lovely, Roi. I also have to say I would pee myself laughing when I used to play it in the ‘esoteric’ shop I worked in and my bovine boss ‘Bronny’ would start doing her ’special sexy romance’ dancing thinking it was a legitimate song about a highwayman….
Um…Bruce Campbell as a Highwayman btw. Did you spot his chin? Twice!
