The stationmaster at my train station has taken to filling the void between departure announcements with music from the 50′s and 60′s. His choices are absolutely genius. Today, for example, it was quite cold so he played (Love is Like A) Heatwave by Martha Reeves and The Vandellas. The first Monday back at work after Christmas, he played Monday, Monday by The Mamas and Papas.If you have ever seen the scene in the film the Fisher King where everyone does an impromptu waltz in rush hour at Grand Central Station it’s kind of like that.
The stationmaster gives a gift to travellers every morning, he let’s us feel, for a brief moment, like the stars of our own movies.
On the other hand, the conductor on the 8.38 from Secaucus is a prick.

Sad News
My Grandfather, Gordon Phillips, passed away yesterday morning. He took me to Disney World, bought me the Star Trek Technical Manual, loaned me the money for my first and only real set of drums and gave me his cufflinks for my wedding.
He was a good guy and I will miss him.

Built a computer yesterday evening. Waited for the parts for ages. Finally finished it at 3.00 AM. Haven’t even tried it out yet:( The gorilla above is of the American variety.

Music of the Gym
I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week before work. They play music there which is inappropriately clubby for that time of the morning. Most people don’t seem to mind because they’re jacked into their Ipods having a futile personal fitness experience.
Everyone looks about the same in gym clothes so it’s impossible to guess what they might be listening to. Is it Entombed or The Scissor Sisters? MF Doom or Travis? Could be Johnny Mathis for that matter. There is NO WAY to tell without asking. I will not chance even becoming VAGUELY acquainted with anyone at the gym for reasons of my own.
